Improve your story

one line at a time.

I help authors refine their stories and skillsets with editing that teaches you the why behind revisions. Good editing comes from empathy and enthusiasm for your hard work — you’ll find that here!

Meet the Editor: Rochelle ✨

I’ve been editing for 10 years. After a dismal stint in the corporate sector, I put my editing degree to use serving self-published authors who love what they do. In turn, I love my job as well!

I specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, and romance. At Nym, we offer line and copy editing. My goal is to teach you writing best practices through kindness and clarity, and I’m looking forward to helping you polish your story.

Frequently Asked Questions

    • If your story is structurally sound but you want to improve the impact of your words, consider a line edit.

    • If your writing is solid but needs a final check for grammar, punctuation, and consistency, consider a copy edit.

I detail differences on my Services page!

  • This may surprise you, but if your goal is traditional publication, nope! Agents typically want to see the quality of your work standalone, so editing services can detract from their appraisal.

If you plan on self-publishing or simply want to learn more about writing through a professional editing service (for instance, if querying doesn’t work out but you want to improve before writing a second project), come to me!

  • Yes! I offer a free 2,000-word sample edit so you can assess which services might be best for you. Unless you request otherwise, this sample edit includes line and copy editing suggestions that I will clearly mark so you can see the differences between the two.

  • I typically book around three months in advance and will need a month to complete your service. If the waitlist is any longer, I will let you know! Regardless, this is your gentle reminder to plan ahead — the revision process takes a long time, and my work is just one element of it.

  • Yes! For my speculative fiction authors, my line editing and copy editing include consistency checks to make sure your world’s terms (caps, punctuation, hyphenation) are consistent.

My line edits check for consistency with character details, lore, and worldbuilding.

  • It depends on the length of your manuscript and the level of editing needed. Typically, a 100,000-word fantasy novel takes about 36 weeks for a thorough line or copy edit.
